Gosport 'copycat' who 'acted like five-year-old' dealt same fate as driver who woke people up shouting 'wakey wakey'

A DRIVER who woke people up when driving around in the early hours shouting ‘wakey wakey’ has a copycat after police revealed a man ‘acting like a five-year-old’ has been ‘blasting his horn’ and ‘shouting’ to wake residents sleeping.

Gosport police mocked the 24-year-old ‘genius’ Gosport man, who was marauding round Alverstoke between 11.45pm and 12.45am on November 20, with officers pointing out he has been dealt the same fate as ‘our previous annoying driver’.

After tracking down the driver, police warned him that his vehicle will be seized if he is caught annoying people in the next 12 months. He was slapped with a section 59 warning.

In November the 21-year-old driver of a red Nissan Navara from Fareham was handed that same warning after waking people early in the morning in Brockhurst and Elson.

Police, who were less than impressed with his early morning shenanigans, were equally disapproving with the latest incident.

In a post on social media, Gosport police said: ‘You copycat, we copycat: It appears our previous post attracted a copycat.

‘For a full hour a 24-year-old Gosport male disturbed people who were simply trying to sleep.’

It went on to say: ‘The male continuously blasted his horn and shouted out, waking up plenty of people in the process.

‘Lacking in originality, the male was clearly copying our previous annoying driver. So, we thought it was only right we demonstrated a lack of originality too - by catching up with our latest irritating driver and dealing with him in exactly the same way.’

Gosport police then warned others against embarking on the new trend. ‘If you ultimately want us to end up seizing your vehicle then you know what to do,’ the post added.

‘On the other hand if you would like to keep your vehicle yours then please don’t act like a five-year-old when you’re driving it.’

The warning, both for the original nuisance driver and his copycat, means that if the behaviour continues in the next 12 months, their vehicles will be seized even if it is a different vehicle to the one driven.
