Gosport murder trial: Accused killer Brendan Rowan-Davies says he has done 'as much as he can' to help find murderer

Brendan Rowan-Davies, 29, is being cross-examined by prosecutor William Mousley QC at Winchester Crown Court where he is accused of killing Kelly-Anne Case.

Jurors have been told the sexually-motivated murder was discovered when firefighters found her body in her bedroom at her home in Grange Crescent, Gosport, on July 30. The defendant is accused of torturing and killing her, before setting a fire downstairs.

Mr Mousley asked: ‘Are you sorry for what happened to Kelly-Anne?’

Rowan-Davies said: ‘Course.’

The QC asked: ‘What have you done to help catch her killer?’

The defendant said: ‘I went with my solicitors and they advised me to sort it out this way.’

Mr Mousley added: ‘What have you done to help catch Kelly-Anne’s killer?’

Rowan-Davies said: ‘Hopefully as much as I can.’

Earlier, Rowan-Davies told jurors he spent time at Ms Case’s home with her and his friend Will Vallender, had secretly filmed them having sex as a ‘joke’ but deleted the footage from his phone.

The defendant said he left with Mr Vallender but returned alone, and was threatened by a man with a knife who held it at his throat when Rowan-Davies saw Ms Case dead on her bed.

Jurors were shown a large quantity of women’s underwear found in a wheelie bin at a depot. Rowan-Davies said he thought Mr Vallender put them in his black bag, which the defendant threw away.

Mr Mousley asked: ‘Was the mysterious man who was there later, was he somewhere?’

The defendant asked ‘what do you mean?’ but when asked how the underwear got there he said: ‘I don’t know.’

Asking Rowan-Davies why he changed his clothes and took more with him, Mr Mousley said: ‘Were you expecting the clothing to get bloodstained?’

The defendant said: ‘No.’

Mr Mousley asked: ‘What other reason would there be to take another set of clothing?’

The defendant, of Trinity Close, in Gosport, said: ‘I can’t remember.’

Asked why he had to go and retrieve his tobacco from Ms Case’s home, which is what he said was the reason for going back to her home, he said: ‘If I had anymore fags from my mum she would have gone mad.’

Rowan-Davies denies murder and arson.
