Dad-of-two Andrew Oliver, 53, was found conscious with stab wounds to his chest after being knifed by his sibling Mark Oliver, 56, at their Harwood Road home they shared with their mum Jean in Bridgemary, Gosport, on the afternoon of February 1.

Winchester Crown Court heard how paramedics arrived at the house at 3.17pm after police had given the all-clear to enter.

Paramedic Scott Jenkins, in a statement read out to court by prosecutor Andrew Houston, said he ‘found the patient on the landing rolling from side to side’ after being told of a stab wound to the chest by a police officer.

‘I asked how far in the knife went but no reply was given. The patient was still conscious and needed air.’

The paramedic then found a second wound to Andrew’s chest as his situation rapidly deteriorated.

‘He went unconscious and stopped breathing before rolling onto his back when he started breathing again. His breathing then stopped again,’ Mr Jenkins said.

Chest seals were then placed on the wounds before CPR was started as desperate attempts were made to save Andrew. A ‘lot of blood’ was found coming from the left chest cavity.

Meanwhile Dr David Sutton, the duty doctor on call with Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, had arrived on scene to assist.

‘The heart appeared empty of blood at this point,’ he said. ‘There was a 1cm stab wound to the heart.

‘There was only a limited amount of blood coming from the wound - confirming my belief the heart was empty of blood.’

Further attempts were made to save Andrew but Dr Sutton said there were ‘copious amounts of blood from the left cavity’ which they were ‘unable to stop’.

After Andrew had been in cardiac arrest for more than 40 minutes and with the medical experts unable to stem the flow of blood, he was pronounced dead at 4.14pm.

‘It was an unsurvivable cardiac arrest caused by two stab wounds,’ Dr Sutton added.

Mark Oliver denies murder.
