Gosport police discover 13-year-old behind the wheel of a car driving 'recklessly' along Rowner Road

POLICE stopped a car driving erratically around Gosport earlier this week – and discovered the driver was just 13 years old.

Officers conducting routine patrols around Gosport and Lee-on-the-Solent noticed a vehicle driving recklessly along Rowner Road shortly before 2.35am on Monday.

The black Skoda Octavia was stopped shortly after turning left onto Broom Way.

The sole occupant of the car fled the vehicle with officers pursuing on foot – before making a startling discovery.

A spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘The occupant left the vehicle and after a brief pursuit on-foot, officers detained him further along Broom Way and discovered that he was 13 years old.

‘He was taken home and an investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident is ongoing.’
