Gosport stabbing: Man accused of murdering his younger brother appears in court

A MAN accused of stabbing his younger brother to death has appeared in court.

Andrew Oliver, 53, was stabbed at a house in Harwood Road, Bridgemary, Gosport on Saturday afternoon.

Police and paramedics were called to the property at 3.15pm. The 53-year-old, of Gosport, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Today, his older brother Mark Oliver appeared in front of a district judge at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court charged with murder.

Flanked by two prison guards, Oliver, 55, of Harwood Road, spoke only to confirm his name and age.

No plea was entered during the three-minute court hearing.

However, an application for bail was submitted by Oliver’s defence counsel, Teresa Tang, of Bentley & Jackson solicitors firm.

District judge Anthony Callaway adjourned the case until tomorrow morning, where an application for bail will be determined at Winchester Crown Court.

Oliver, wearing a blue jumper, was remanded in custody until then.
