Gosport woman, 36, arrested after police officer is spat at while responding to a car crash in the Crossways

A WOMAN from Gosport has been arrested following a car crashing into a pair of traffic lights, with a police officer being spat at during the emergency call-out.

Police were dispatched at 3.52am yesterday after a car hit the central island of the Crossways, in Gosport.

The driver had left, but officers were able to find the vehicle’s registered keeper – a 36-year-old-woman – at an address nearby.

Police say the women was threatening towards responding officers, assaulting one of them.

In a tweet showing the crashed vehicle, Gosport police say an officer was spat at during the subsequent arrest.

The Gosport resident was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled Class B drug and common assault of an emergency worker.

A spokeswoman from Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘Once in police custody she provided a breath test, which was positive for alcohol.

‘She was also arrested for driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level is above the limit.’

The woman is still in police custody.
