Hampshire police jobs available now – here’s how to apply

The force said its warranted officers can have ‘all kinds of skills’ – and appealed for a wide variety of applicants.

The Hampshire Constabulary advert, posted in the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement gripping the globe after the police killing of George Floyd in America, said it had recently received the ‘highest interest’ the force has ever had from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups.

A statement added: ‘Since September 2019 we’ve had more than 2,000 new applications from people who want to become police officers. This is fantastic news, as is the fact that we have had by far the highest interest ever had from our BAME communities. Diversity is something we welcome and want to increase.’

Last month the force recruited 16 officers as part of the national three-year 20,000 uplift. Hampshire has funding for 156 new officers in the first year.

A job advert said the force has the ‘highest police officer starting salary of any force in the south east, and there could be opportunities and development on top of that’.

What qualifications do you need to apply for Hampshire police?

Two entry routes are open. If you do not have a degree you can join the three-year Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship Programme, or if you have a degree you will go on the two-year Police Constable Degree Holder Entry Programme. Both get full salary while training.

To do the apprenticeship you will need Maths and English GCSE at grade C/4 or higher. You must also have a Level 3 qualification.

The PC advert said: ‘We look for all kinds of skills, because we know it takes all kinds of people to protect the public. Problem solving, compassion, resilience, respect, courage and teamwork.

‘These are the qualities we are looking for. Join us and help to shape the future of policing in Hampshire.

It added: ‘Becoming a police officer offers job stability and huge day to day variety.

‘You’ll get to develop your skills and knowledge as you work in and with our communities across an ever-changing criminal landscape.

‘It’s tough but very rewarding and we will ensure you get the wellbeing support and training you need to succeed.

‘In recent campaigns we have had the highest interest we’ve ever had from our BAME communities. In this respect, we are lucky to have a well-established support network called Beam, and a great positive action team to support you in your career.’

How long does the process take?

Recruitment and selection can take up to six months, with tough vetting to get through first.

Three initial stages must be passed first, including eligibility screening and two online assessments. Anyone successful will go on to more screening tests and could then receive a conditional job offer.

If successful you could be posted anywhere in Hampshire.

When do applications close?

The application window is limited, and while there is no end date is specified, applications could close at any point.
