Hayling Island crash: Woman arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crash which caused serious injuries

Police are appealing for witnesses after a road traffic collision caused serious injuries to two people in Hayling Island, with one person arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

The incident occurred around 2.20pm on Monday, May 20 near Stoke Fruit Farm on Havant Road. A Toyota Auris and Ford Mondeo collided with each other resulting in two Toyota passengers, an eight-year-old and a 17-year-old girl, suffering serious but not life threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford, suffered minor injuries but was arrested under suspicion of drink driving.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: “We are appealing for witnesses and information following a serious road traffic collision on Hayling Island. An eight-year-old girl suffered a broken nose and fractured wrist, while a 17-year-old girl suffered a broken collar bone and broken rib.

“Another passenger, a man in his 20s, suffered minor injuries. The driver, a woman in her 30s, was not injured. The driver of the Ford, a woman in her 40s, suffered minor injuries.

“An investigation is underway into the exact circumstances of the collision, and officers wish to speak with anyone who may be able to assist with their enquiries. Were you in the area at the time? Did you witness the incident? Do you have any dashcam footage which could help the investigation?

“As part of the investigation, a 45-year-old woman from Waterlooville was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving. She has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.”
