Hit-and-run driver flees crash site after smashing into a car in Gosport

POLICE are hunting for a driver who smashed into a car before fleeing the scene.

The hit-and-run took place at 9.13pm yesterday at the junction of South Street and Shaftsbury Road in Gosport.

The driver behind the wheel of a black Volkswagen is reported to have pulled out of the junction, smashing into a black Vauxhall before making off on foot.

A spokesman for Hampshire police said: ‘We can confirm that our officers were called out to an incident at 9.13pm yesterday evening (19 March) following reports of a two-vehicle collision at the junction of South Street and Shaftsbury Road in Gosport.

‘A black Volkswagen failed to give way and collided with a black Vauxhall.

‘The driver of the Volkswagen then decamped and fled the scene.

‘No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made at this stage.’

Witnesses or those with information about the crash are urged to contact police on 101.
