HM Coastguard has stopped the search, which began yesterday at 7.28pm, after a white and burgundy jetski was found in the eastern Solent with a phone on board.

A spokesman from HM Coastguard said: ‘Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this very difficult time.’

The search continued overnight and throughout today with independent lifeboats from Gosport and Ryde, the search and rescue helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent, HM Coastguard’s fixed wing aircraft, RNLI lifeboats from Bembridge, Yarmouth and Calshot, Coastguard Rescue Teams from Hillhead, Hayling Island, Ventnor and Bembridge and the Hampshire Police Marine Unit.

However nothing was found.

The jetski is a Yamaha Waverunner with a ‘201 Langstone Harbour’ sticker attached and the killcord, designed to stop the jetski if the rider falls off, not attached.
