Grant Warden, 45, was married to the victim, who The News is not naming, before their relationship ended and they had an on-off affair.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard that between January 10 and 11 last year Warden’s wife called time on that and wanted to make a go of her relationship with another person.

Warden exploded in rage sending a ‘tirade of vile communications’ including threatening messages to his wife about her partner. Things calmed and affectionate texts resumed.

But in the early hours of January 13, Warden told his estranged wife he had ‘published on social media photographs of (her) recorded when the two were together,’ the court heard.

Warden boasted to her how the videos and photos were getting ‘likes from the post he made on Facebook’.

His estranged wife suffered a ‘great deal of distress’ over the images and informed police.

At a trial Warden, who has 17 previous offences, was cleared of a dangerous driving charge. But he admitted sending messages causing distress or anxiety.

Sentencing, judge William Ashworth said: ‘At that point in the relationship you felt entitled to control over another person and sought to exercise control over another person, and one of the most difficult aspects to sentence this is the way that victims can be forced into submission.’

But he added there were ‘unusual features’ in the domestic abuse case, adding Warden pleaded guilty at the first opportunity, he accepts the relationship is over and is now trying to ‘forge a new life’ without her.

Judge Ashworth imposed a 12-month community order with 15 days’ rehabilitation activity days and 60 hours’ unpaid work. A restraining order bans him from contacting the victim for three years and entering Allaway Avenue in Paulsgrove.

Jodie Mittell, for Warden, now of Bramshott Road, Hindhead, said her client had ‘genuine remorse’ and does now intend to divorce the woman.
