Law firm warns about trust property scam

HOMEOWNERS are signing away the rights to their homes after being targeted by scammers.

That's the warning from law firm Coffin Mew which says it is being contacted by the victims of wealth investment scams in Hampshire.

The firm has highlighted a scam that involves companies selling homeowners legal products that they do not need, such as '˜Family Protection Trusts' in a bid to protect properties from care home fees or inheritance tax. Often the victim has unknowingly signed away the ownership of their home and paid thousands to do so.

Coffin Mew solicitor Lindsay Taylor, who specialises in wills, trust and probate, said: '˜Clients approach us when they realise they no longer own their home, for instance, when the sale of a house falls through due to the property being in a trust.'
