A flat in Leigh Park has been boarded up after police secured a closure order following links with criminal behaviour.

The flat on Purbrook Way has been closed off for three months with the occupant needing to find alternative accommodation. The closure order was issued today (November 26) after Portsmouth Magistrates Court granted the application in full following reports of nuisance, disorderly, and criminal behaviour linked to the address.

Ian Mitchell, an officer with the Battins and West Leigh Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Residents had been subjected to anti-social incidents for several weeks after a year of respite whilst the tenant had conditions not live at the address. We hope this closure order will provide much-needed relief from the impact these incidents have had on their lives.”

Sergeant Jamie Graham added: “We’d like to thank residents who reported issues and cooperated with us, as well as our partners at Portsmouth City Council for their support in this joint action.

“We encourage everyone to report anti-social behaviour. Community reports help us build a clear picture of local crime, which is vital for actions like closure orders and our day-to-day patrols.”

While the closure order is in place, anyone found in the property will be liable for arrest and could face prosecution.
