Leigh Park shoplifter spared prison for supermarket theft spree

The 30-year-old, of Malwood Close, Leigh Park, admitted eight thefts, with some of them joint thefts.

He stole two power drills from B&Q on May 22.

He admitted having a foil-lined bag for use in theft in South Gloucestershire on June 19 last year.

Shiers admitted stealing seven sets of pyjamas worth £210 from Marks and Spencer on November 4. He admitted breaching a conditional discharge.

He admitted jointly stealing £300 worth of meat from Marks and Spencer on October 21.

He must pay £150 compensation for the meat.

He admitted stealing £74.86 worth of lamb from Farmfoods on November 7. He must pay the same value in compensation.

Shiers admitted stealing £147 worth of wi-fi personal hotspots from Sainsbury's on January 4, and jointly stealing £800 of cosmetics from Boots in Petersfield a day later.

He must pay £200 compensation.

He also admitted jointly stealing £248.22 worth of toys from Asda on January 26 and must pay £82.74 compensation.

Shiers admitted jointly stealing £140.55 worth of toys on February 7 at Asda in Fareham. He must pay £70 compensation.

Shiers admitted a further three thefts at Sainsbury's on January 29, 30 and February 7.

He must pay £442 compensation.

Shiers further admitted stealing goods from Sainsbury's in West Sussex on November 15 last year, and assaulting a person to prevent his lawful apprehension.

Magistrates imposed a 16-week prison sentence suspended for a year.

He must complete a drug rehabilitation requirement for six months and 20 days' rehabilitation activities.
