Man, 37, accused of sex attack on girl, 16, on Fratton footbridge remanded in custody until trial next year

A 37-year-old man accused of a sex attack on a 16-year-old girl on a Fratton footbridge has been remanded in custody until his trial next year.

Charles Temearauebikonte Okiy, of New Road East, Fratton, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court charged with one count of assaulting a female 13 and over by penetration with part of body/a thing and four counts of sexual assault on a female.

The charge comes after it was reported to police that between 10pm and 10.30pm on Sunday, July 17, the 16-year-old was walking along St Mary’s Road when she was approached by an unknown male.

It is then alleged she was touched inappropriately and sexually assaulted on the footbridge over the railway tracks, near the entrance of Kingston Recreation Ground.

During his court hearing, Okiy was remanded in custody ahead of a trial on January 9.

Police announced three days after the incident on July 20, they had made an arrest as part of the investigation.
