Man, 62, pleads guilty to raping girl under 13 in Isle of Wight country park

A MAN has admitted to sexually assaulting a young girl in a country park.

Graham Medway, 62 from Freshwater, Isle of Wight, was charged with the rape of a child under the age of 13, and pleaded guilty at Newport Crown Court earlier today.

It comes after Hampshire Constabulary was called to Fort Victoria Country Park on Monday, August 31, following reports that a girl had been sexually assaulted.

A spokesman for the police force said: ‘A man accused of a serious sexual offence in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, has pleaded guilty today.

‘Police were called to Fort Victoria Country Park with a report that a young girl had been seriously sexually assaulted in an area of woodland by a man she did not know.

‘Following a thorough investigation involving police officers from across the Isle of Wight and the mainland, 62-year-old Graham Medway from Freshwater was charged with rape of a child under the age of 13.

‘He admitted the offence and was remanded in custody to appear at the same court on Friday, January 8, 2021 for sentencing.’
