Man held over shop robbery bid

Police say it is in connection with an attempted armed robbery at Gina’s in Clayhall Road on Monday, June 20.

Shortly after 5.15pm a man who had his face covered walked into Gina’s and placed a knife and a bag on to the counter.

He demanded cash, but was refused and was prevented from getting behind the counter by a 71-year-old woman, who was not hurt.

The man then left and rode off on a blue and white bicycle.

The victim described the man as 5ft 6ins tall and slim.

He wore a black wool balaclava, a large hooded navy jacket, and black tracksuit bottoms.

He was carrying a lime green bag which had a pull cord top.

The 35-year-old has been bailed until August 15.
