Motiv8 hack: Charity shares update after being caught up in cyber security incident last month
“We will continue to monitor the situation closely,” the CEO said.
A charity has shared an encouraging update after being affected by a cyber security incident last month.
In September, Motiv8 - a charity that that works with young people in Portsmouth and the surrounding area to grow in confidence and develop new skills - was part of a wider hack of Beacon, a customer relationship management system (CRM).
According to the charity, copies of Beacon’s back-up database were made, although it is unknown if any data was actually downloaded.
Motiv8 CEO Kirsty Robertson has now provided what she says should be the “final” update on the data breach, after an investigation was carried out.
She said: “Since our last update Beacon have also confirmed that while they were contacted during the investigation, they have not engaged contact with the threat actor. Beacon have advised they won't be able to provide any further details about this incident beyond the contents of the report.
“Motiv8 does not store sensitive personal information, financial information, bank account details, payment card details, passwords, or other confidential personal records within Beacon.
“Since being informed of the incident, Motiv8 has implemented all additional security measures recommended by Beacon, including reviewing access permissions, updating credentials, and strengthening security controls. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and share any significant updates as we receive them.
“On behalf of all at Motiv8, our trustees, staff, volunteers, and young people, we want to extend our thanks for your ongoing support and understanding.”
Kirsty added that the information Motiv8 stores is contact and organisation names, email addresses, telephone numbers, a person’s relationship with Motiv8, records of correspondence and job titles, where provided.
