Murder arrest after Gosport 13-week-old baby dies at home

Detectives investigating the death of an infant girl have arrested a woman on suspicion of murder.

The 13-week-old child was seriously unwell when paramedics arrived at her home in Howe Road, Rowner, in Gosport.

Crews poured their best efforts into saving the girl but she died before being taken to hospital, Hampshire police confirmed.

A 24-year-old woman from Gosport was arrested but has since been released under investigation.

The probe started after the child’s death on March 10 but has only recently come to light.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: ‘We were called at 8.52am on Tuesday 10 March by the ambulance service reporting a 13-week-old child seriously unwell at an address in Howe Road, Gosport.

‘Despite the best efforts of emergency services at the scene, the child was pronounced dead a short time later.

‘Enquiries into the exact circumstances and the cause of death are ongoing.

‘A 24-year-old woman from Gosport was arrested on suspicion of murder.

‘She has been released under investigation.’
