Pervert performed sex act in front of 17-year-old girl at Portsmouth bus stop

Ian Harrison locked eyes with his victim before he carried out the ‘disgusting’ act while she was sitting listening to music in north Portsmouth last summer.

Disgusted by the 52-year-old, she called for help as Harrison dashed around the corner to his car and drove off.

Shamed Harrison, a panel beater, claims he has no memory of the incident but a psychological report found he has no mental health problems.

Matthew Lawson, prosecuting, said: ‘The offence has left her feeling disgusting, unclean and dirty.’

In her victim statement read out at Portsmouth Crown Court, she said: ‘I feel physically sick when I think about what happened. I’m shocked and upset.’

Harrison, of Masefield Avenue, Portsmouth, was snared after detectives released an e-fit image and identified him through DNA.

Mr Lawson told how the girl had just been waiting at the bus stop when Harrison looked at her.

He said: ‘She felt very uncomfortable but still thought nothing of it and carried on looking at her phone.’

She then realised Harrison had performed an act on himself. He added: ‘She looked round and the defendant was doing up his trousers.

‘She says that as soon as she realised what happened she was disgusted.

‘She got up from her seat turned to look at the defendant and said to him: “you’re disgusting”.’

The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, got help from an elderly woman and later told police.

Speaking after the hearing, Detective Constable Russell Bramley said: ‘The victim in this disturbing case can only be praised for her help to secure the conviction, mindful that it has and continues to be harrowing for her.’

Sentencing, Judge Ian Pearson handed Harrison a 12-month prison term suspended for two years saying it was a ‘bizarre’ and ‘unusual’ case. He suspended the sentence as Harrison has no previous convictions for sex offences.

Harrison must pay £300 compensation.

He must sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and complete a 100-day sex offender treatment programme and 30 rehabilitation activity days.

A court order bans him from contacting girls under 18 for 10 years

Kriston Berlevy, for Harrison, said he could not remember the incident and expressed genuine remorse. Harrison pleaded guilty to sexual assault.
