Police arrest man on suspicion of assaulting elderly pensioner but are yet to find victim

POLICE have arrested a man following reports a pensioner was assaulted in Gosport - but are yet to find the victim.

The authority is appealing to the public as they attempt to track down the elderly man who was allegedly assaulted in Privett Road at around 4pm on Thursday.

A 20-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been arrested in connection with this incident on suspicion of common assault, possession of an offensive weapon, and assault on an emergency worker.

A police statement said: ‘We received reports from members of the public about an elderly man being assaulted.

‘Officers searched the area and have made enquiries with hospitals but are yet to identify him or hear from this person.

‘We need to check the welfare of this individual and establish the circumstances of what has happened.’
