Police chase and arrest occupants of stolen Mercedes after crash in Gosport

POLICE have arrested two men – one found with a knife – after they ran from a stolen Mercedes involved in a crash in Gosport earlier this week.

Officers on patrol chased them after spotting a collision between a Mercedes and another vehicle in Privett Road, Lee-on-the-Solent, at 11.33am on Tuesday.

The Mercedes – reported stolen just minutes beforehand – was driven off and then abandoned on Portsmouth Road.

After searching the area, police officers arrested two people on foot.

A spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘A 20-year-old man from Gosport has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and possession of a bladed article – knife – in public.

‘A 17-year-old boy from Gosport [has been] arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.’

Both have been released from custody but remain under investigation while enquiries continue.

No one was injured in the collision.
