A police cordon is in place near Portsmouth city centre this morning after a ‘serious incident’.

A white forensic tent has been put up in Old Commercial Road and police officers are at the scene.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said police were ‘attending a serious incident’ but, contrary to reports, it was not a stabbing.

The cordon is near to the Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum which is on Old Commercial Road.

Police are also patrolling surrounding roads with a cordon also in place on Victoria Street.

Residents have been told to log in and out of their homes while police are at the scene.

Yesterday police and paramedics were called out to Fratton Road after a man was found with life-threatening injuries.

An air ambulance landed at Portsmouth Academy as part of the emergency response.
