A large emergency service response that included armed police was deployed to Evergreen Close, Waterlooville, around 10am on Saturday January 10 as two people were treated by an air ambulance crew.

A 50-year-old woman was treated at an address before being rushed to hospital for treatment following an alleged attack as officers remained the area in the days afterwards. A 52-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder and was taken to hospital for treatment to an arm injury - where he has remained until now.

A police spokesperson, giving an update today (Wednesday), said: “The man is no longer in hospital and has been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.”

As reported, locals reported seeing a massive emergency service response following the incident - with armed police seen in the area. “There were two ambulances, a few police cars and then just as I walked up the road the air ambulance landed in the fields just behind the houses,” one person said.

Another resident added: “Police were everywhere - it was also obviously a serious situation. Hopefully the woman is ok.”

A police spokesperson previously said: “Officers attended the scene and found that a 50-year-old woman had been assaulted. She was taken to hospital to receive treatment and has since been discharged.

“A 52-year-old man was also located inside the address with an injury to his arm. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in hospital.

“An investigation is underway, and officers will be in the area to carry out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened. While our enquiries are at an early stage, we do not believe there is any wider ongoing risk to the community.”
