Police on Southsea Common after travellers pitch-up

POLICE are on Southsea Common after ‘lots of travellers’ swooped onto the popular location this evening.

Several caravans pitched up after gaining access to the area - with more said to be arriving at the time of writing.

One resident said: ‘There are lots of travellers back on the Common with more arriving.’

The Common has proved to be a fruitful destination for travellers with the previous pilgrimage to the site in May seeing dozens of caravans and several vans in May.

On that occasion, the leader of Portsmouth City Council, councillor Gerald Vernon-Jackson, said there had been reports of Covid-19 on the traveller's site before they moved on.
