Billy Green, 26, died on Monday outside Pickwick House despite the best efforts of paramedics and passers-by who came to aid him in his final moments.

His family today said: ‘Our first-born son, heartbroken parents, taken way too young, he had his whole life to live.

Floral tributes have been left at Pickwick House following his death.

More than £2,600 has been raised for his funeral by those supporting his grieving friends and family.

A fundraiser launched by the Green family said: ‘Help us pay for Billy Green’s send off – (he) died suddenly without any of his family by his side!

‘He was a son, brother and cousin who was loved by many people for his laugh and smile taken at the age of 26, way too young when he had his whole life in front of him. RIP Billy Green.’

It comes after medics and members of the public tried to save Mr Green, who was stabbed in Wingfield Street, Buckland, on Monday.

But officers later confirmed the same day he had died at the scene.

Major crime detectives are continuing to question the 23-year-old man, who police said is from Southsea, arrested on the day.

Suspects can be questioned for up to 96 hours if courts grant approval.

Detective Inspector Matthew Gillooly yesterday said: ‘We must ensure we do everything to gather all potential evidence so that the person responsible is brought to justice.

‘We understand that members of the public will be concerned about what has happened. We would like to reassure you that we believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the community.’

Investigators have launched a website page where evidence recorded by witnesses can be submitted.

A Hampshire police spokeswoman said: ‘We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen or heard anything.

‘Perhaps you have CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage from the area at the time.’
