Portsmouth man, 32, arrested for drink-driving after 'smashing' into parked cars and wall

A SUSPECTED drink-driver is in police custody after ‘smashing’ into several parked cars before crashing into a wall.

A 32-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested at 9.47pm yesterday after a silver Mazda 3 hit a wall in St Mary’s Road, Fratton.

It was reported the Mazda had crashed into parked cars on Twyford Avenue, Lower Derby Road and Angerstein Road, all in Stamshaw.

A police spokeswoman said: ‘The man was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen of breath and driving whilst unfit through drink.

‘He remains in custody at this time.’

An eyewitness said: ‘The driver’s car was totally smashed to pieces - I’m sure it will be a write-off, it is completely wrecked.

‘There was oil all over the road from where the engine was damaged.

‘The car caused significant damage to the parked cars.

‘There were around 10 cars that have been left damaged.’
