Portsmouth man charged with shoplifting after police probe

A MAN has been charged after businesses reported thefts taking place in shops.

Police officers in Portsmouth have been investigating thefts from companies in the city.

David Knipe, 40, of Fratton Way, Southsea, has been charged with theft from a shop, possession of a controlled drug of class B and criminal damage.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘The charges come after we were called to incidents at Co-op, Winter Road, and Wilko, Arundel Street, on August 3 and 4 respectively.

‘He was remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today.’

The investigation has been part of Operation Monster – which aims to tackle the impact of thefts on local businesses.
