A MAN is due to appear in court following an attempted robbery that left two pensioners injured.

Matthew Smith, 22, of Milton Road, in Portsmouth, was charged with an attempted robbery at an address on Orchard Road, Southsea, on Sunday, September 27 between 6pm and 6.20pm.

Smith is also alleged to have assaulted two victims - a 91-year-old man and an 87-year-old woman - during the incident.

Nothing was stolen, police said.

Smith, who was charged on Tuesday, appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today.

He has been remanded in custody and is next due at Portsmouth Crown Court on November 2.
