Portsmouth police in Fratton after man, 22, stabbed just minutes after two-car crash

A MAN has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in Fratton, police have said.

Officers were called to a two-car crash just before 3pm today on the corner of Nancy Road and Cornwall Road.

But minutes later they were dealing with a 22-year-old man who had been stabbed in nearby Fratton Road.

The crash between the Volkswagen Golf and Nissan Micra was an accident, and is not thought to be related to the assault at 3.10pm, police said.

The stabbing victim, who was not involved in the crash, was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are ‘still investigating to establish the exact circumstances of the incident,’ a Hampshire police spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said: ‘We were called at 2.47pm to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on the corner of Nancy Road and Cornwall Road.

‘A black Volkswagen Golf and a silver Nissan Micra were involved in the collision at the junction, which was blocked for a short time until the vehicles were recovered.

‘No-one was injured and the collision is being treated as an accident.

‘While dealing with the collision, at 3.10pm we were alerted to another incident taking place nearby on Fratton Road.

‘On arrival, officers found that a 22-year-old man had been stabbed.
