Portsmouth police shut down Southsea party with more than 40 people

POLICE shut down a party with more than 40 people in attendance in the early hours of this morning.

Officers dispersed the party, which took place in Southsea at 4.30am this morning and issued a warning on social media to the public about following the rules.

Gatherings of more than six people were banned last across England with the government giving police the power to enforce the new law through a £100 fine, doubling up to a maximum of £3,200.

It is currently unknown where the party took place and if anyone was fined.

A tweet from Hants Response Cops read: ‘At 04.30hrs this morning E-Shift Cosham dispersed a party in Southsea with over 40+ people in attendance - certainly more than 6!

‘Remember - the rules are in place to protect the most vulnerable. Just because you're healthy does not guarantee others are. #StaySafe #Covid_19.’
