Portsmouth residents warned about cold callers selling loft insulation

Trading Standards officers from Hampshire County Council said the callers may claim they are working on behalf of local authorities, and make exaggerated claims about the foam’s ability to prevent heat loss.

They may also talk about the savings that can be achieved balanced against the cost of installation.

Claims that existing glass fibre insulation no longer meet current regulations are untrue.

Officers have warned that the spray foam can cause problems if not applied correctly, such as lack of ventilation to the roof space.

The foam may also be hard to remove so it is essential to research the suitability of the foam before having it installed.

Consumers are advised not to agree to work offered by cold callers , but first get at least three written quotes from businesses or traders who are either members of the Hampshire County Council Trading Standards Buy With Confidence Scheme or a recognised trade association.
