Proud 'Saints' FC pub gunned down in shooting

A PROUD Southampton FC supporter’s pub was gunned down in a mystery shooting early this morning.

Shots were blasted at The Saints Pub in Mansel Road West just after 2am today causing windows to smash.

Police have not said whether anyone was inside the pub at the time of the shooting but no one was injured.

An investigation is now underway.

A police spokesman said: ‘We were called to a report of a firearms incident that happened at 2.12am.

‘A weapon was discharged causing damage to three windows.

‘Officers are in the area conducting enquiries to find out the exact circumstances of what happened.

‘This is considered to be an isolated incident and the threat to the public is low but we treat incidents like this very seriously.’

The pub’s website boasts of its proud support to Southampton FC on its website with the caption: ‘Come on you Saints.’

A message then read: ‘This pub was named after Saints (Southampton Football Club), in October 1962 and is a true part of the community with customers of all ages coming here on a regular basis to join friends, relatives and neighbours for drinks, laughs, special occasions and sporting events.

‘After having a makeover a few years back, the pub has gone from strength to strength and the locals are always mentioning how much, for the better, the changes have been.’
