Robbery arrest at Portsmouth jewellers after staff restrain man on the ground

Police were called to Gold Centre in Commercial Road, Portsmouth, on Monday afternoon and a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Footage taken by a passer-by shows a man being restrained on the ground by staff.

A police spokeswoman said: ‘We were called to reports of a robbery at the Gold Centre, in Commercial Road, Portsmouth just before 3.30pm on March 9.

‘Officers attended the scene.

‘A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and he remains in custody at this time.

‘Officers investigating are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident or captured any of it on film, so if this is you, please contact us on 101, quoting 44200089535.’
