Southsea teenager arrested on suspicion of multiple offences including theft and assault of a police officer

A 14-year-old has been arrested following a string of offences were committed – including the assault of a police officer.

The teenager, from Southsea, has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, theft from a shop, theft in a dwelling, common assault, using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance and driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

At approximately 3.30pm patrolling officers spotted a boy in the city centre who they wanted to speak to in connection with the theft of a moped from outside of an address In Samuel Road.

A short pursuit on foot took place through Paradise Street and the boy was detained but on his arrest he assaulted a police officer and became verbally abusive to officers and a member of security staff from Tesco on Crasswell Street.

He was also arrested in connection with a theft that had taken place at the store earlier that afternoon as well as the connection of theft at the Wilko store on Arundel Street on March 21 at 2.45pm where a variety of tools were taken.
