Teenager arrested in Southsea after woman, 40, is attacked

A TEENAGER has been arrested after a woman was assaulted in Southsea last night.

The 19-year-old man was held by police after a 40-year-old woman suffered a possible fractured cheekbone and bruising to her face, arms, legs and back.

It happened between 9pm and 11.40pm last night off Clarence Parade.

Police have been seen in the area throughout today, with at least three officers on the scene this morning.

Police officers tape off area opposite Pyramids Centre in Southsea

Part of Southsea Common, near Ladies Mile, off Clarence Parade has also been taped off while police conduct their investigation.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘We were called by the South Central Ambulance Service to reports of a 40-year-old woman who had been seriously assaulted. She was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital.

‘A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody at this time.

‘We are also investigating an incident in Eastleigh in the early hours of this morning, following reports of a serious assault on a 19-year-old woman.

‘The same 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of serious assault.

‘We are in the process of investigating both incidents to ascertain if there are any possible links between the two attacks.’
