Video footage shows a small group smashing the window of a Land Rover Discovery in Lower Church Path, Portsmouth, on Wednesday afternoon – using a fire extinguisher.

They took a handbag from inside and ran off down the road.

Donald Price, 29, of S&D Sparkles, saw the entire thing unfold in front of him.

He said: ‘It was a customer who came round – she was literally only here for about 10 seconds.

‘It sounded like somebody had crashed into a wall. I came outside and saw three people running off.

‘They took a Louis Vuitton handbag so it was an expensive one.

‘The people running off looked quite young – I just couldn’t believe that they carried a fire extinguisher around with them and were brazen enough to commit a crime like this in broad daylight.’

Mr Price added that the names of those potentially involved are known to traders in the nearby area, and that these had been passed to Hampshire Constabulary.

A spokeswoman for the police force said: ‘We were called at 1.47pm on Wednesday, March 10 to a report that shortly after 1.40pm, three men had approached a grey Land Rover Discovery parked on Lower Church Path and smashed the front passenger side window.

‘One of the three men then grabbed a handbag from the passenger seat and ran away.

‘An investigation into the incident is ongoing.’
