Thousands raised forcharity atauction

NEARLY £4,000 was raised for charity by police officers.

Hampshire Police Federation put on a charity dinner to support the Hampshire Constabulary Welfare Fund and the Gurney Fund for Police Orphans.

Held in November, the federation has now revealed the night raised almost £4,000.

TV star Rachel Riley from Channel 4’s Countdown was the guest of honour at the night.

Then Chief Constable Andy Marsh said: ‘I am proud to have been part of such a fantastic event which has raised a considerable amount of money for two great charities.’

Chairman of the Gurney Fund, Paul Upham, said: ‘The money raised tonight will make a real difference, thank you so much, it means a great deal.’

John Apter, federation chair, thanked those who raised the cash through an auction.

Items sold included a signed Southampton Football Club shirt, shopping vouchers and theatre tickets.
