Three men arrested after police chase ends in car crash in Southsea

THREE men have been arrested in connection with car theft after a police chase ended in a crash in Southsea.

Officers began pursuing a black Honda Jazz at 8.20pm yesterday because it failed to stop for them on Fratton Road.

The chase came to an end after the car collided with another vehicle in Francis Avenue.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said its occupants were seen leaving the car and attempting to run away.

‘We carried out a search of the area and arrested three men,' she said.

'A 20-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with an order to stop a moving vehicle, escape from lawful custody and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

‘An 18-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with an order to stop a moving vehicle, escape from lawful custody and using motor vehicle without insurance.

‘A 20-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.’

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
