TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who was found dead behind a library, as police deem the incident as ‘not suspicious’.

Officers were called to Cosham Library yesterday (July 3) at 7.17am after the body of a man was discovered.

Forensic officers taped off the area around the Portsmouth City Council-owned building on Spur Road and combed it for evidence while detectives spoke to residents living nearby.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman told The News: ‘We were called at 7.17am on July 3 following a report of the body of a man found at the rear of Cosham Library.

Yesterday councillor Steve Pitt, deputy leader of the authority and the city’s culture and leisure chief, said it was ‘tragic to hear that someone has lost their life.’

Jonathan Parker, of Tudor Crescent, was shopping in Cosham High Street yesterday.

The 41-year-old IT worker said: ‘It’s just awful what’s happened. You never expect this sort of thing to happen here – it's such a public area, too.’
