The incident happened at 10.43pm last night near Guildhall Square. the woman was sitting on a footbridge.

A statement from Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘We can confirm that we were called to an incident at 10.43pm last (night) near Guildhall Square following reports of concern for the safety of a woman sitting on a footbridge.

‘Officers engaged with the woman, eventually bringing her to safety and escorting her to her home address.’

A tweet from Cosham shift response officers added: ‘Two of our team talked a suicidal woman off a bridge ledge.

‘All involved safe and everyone going home to their families.’
