Young girl grabbed from behind by unknown man in 'suspicious incident' in city

The police have launched an appeal for information after two young girls were approached by an unknown man.

Police officers received a report that, at around 7:30am on Tuesday, October 15, an unknown man chased an 11-year-old girl in Allaway Avenue but did not have any physical contact with her.

Shortly after this incident, a second 11-year-old girl was grabbed from behind by a man at the junction of Ludlow Road and Allaway Avenue. It was reported he tried to take the girl's phone. No injuries were reported from either incident.

Acting Police Sergeant Rich Langley, of the Portsmouth North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "The safety of the community is our top priority and we are taking these reports seriously.

"We are actively working in close partnership with the nearby Castle View Academy and local businesses to identify anyone involved. 

"Local officers have stepped up patrols in the area and will continue to do so in the coming days to ensure there is a visible police presence to provide reassurance to residents, parents and students.

"At this time, we do not believe there is an immediate danger to the public. However, we remain committed to investigating these reports thoroughly and ensuring that the area remains safe."
