District judge Anthony Callaway adjourned the case to Portsmouth Crown Court on August 8.

He said: ‘You’re remanded in the custody of the crown court until that time.’

Mohammed, who was in handcuffs and dressed in grey tracksuit, was led down to the cells.

It comes after police said the woman was stabbed in the back in London Road, North End, on Saturday.

A second man, 41, from Portsmouth, was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder but has been released without charge and faces no further action.
