Vacuum cleaner thief carrying knife and drug paraphernalia chased by police and arrested in Gosport

A MAN has been arrested for stealing vacuum cleaners and carrying a knife in Gosport.

Officers seized the cordless hoovers from a 37-year-old man who had stuffed them into a bag. He was riding a bike in Varos Close yesterday afternoon before being chased by police.

As well as the household devices, he was in possession of a knife and various drug paraphernalia. The man is currently in custody.

A statement from Gosport police said: ‘Officers stopped and arrested a man in Varos Close yesterday afternoon, who was wanted in connection with some shoplifting offences.

‘The 37-year-old from Gosport was out on his bike when he was confronted by officers and detained after a short chase.

‘Arresting officers seized a lock knife, some drugs paraphernalia and a bag containing a couple of cordless vacuum cleaners which were suspected to be stolen. The man was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.’
