WATCH: Video catches '˜reckless' Portsmouth '˜road rage'
THIS is the moment '˜road rage' nearly saw two cars crash on a busy city street.
Captured on a motorcyclist’s headcam, the footage shows how one 4x4 goes to overtake another vehicle.
But the car in front then swerves right – blocking the overtaking vehicle and leaving both on the wrong side of Holbrook Road.
Road safety charity Brake has called the drivers’ actions ‘worrying’ and ‘reckless’.
Shocked Perry Grant said he saw the road rage incident start at the roundabout with Lake Road on Wednesday, October 26 at 3.15pm.
Perry, 31, was riding home when he saw a driver of one vehicle open their door, before the other gesticulated.
Perry filtered through traffic to get a good view of the incident unfolding in case anything further happened.
It was then he saw the black Porsche 4x4 go to overtake the Mercedes – and then the Mercedes swerved right.
‘It’s quite disturbing, the fact is there were members of the public, anyone could have run across the road,’ he said.
‘They were more concentrating on each other than other road users or members of the public. It’s quite shocking to see – that shouldn’t be seen on the roads at all.’
Mr Grant, who lives in Southsea, bought a headcam for his own safety. Last year he had a crash and the driver tried to blame it on him.
‘Since then I’ve been grateful I’ve got a camera,’ he said.
Jack Kushner, spokesman for Brake, the road safety charity, said: ‘This is concerning footage, and shows the type of reckless driving that can, and regularly does, lead to collisions and deaths on the road.
‘Overtaking on single-carriageway roads is one of the most dangerous and often unnecessary manoeuvres drivers can perform, but it is also worrying to see a driver attempting to block another vehicle.
‘Too many drivers seem to believe that their journey is more important than the safety of other road users, and all drivers have a responsibility to stay within the law and drive safely.’
The incident has not been reported to the police.
