Arthur spoke only to confirm her identity and plead not guilty to murder.

Another woman, Julie Palmer, 53, of Westminster Place, Portsmouth, has previously pleaded not guilty to assisting an offender in connection with the case.

Judge Keith Cutler adjourned the case to October 4 for a two to three-week trial at Salisbury Crown Court.

He remanded Arthur into custody, where she has been since she was arrested.

Palmer, who was excused attendance at the hearing, was granted continuing bail.

Friends had previously paid tribute to Ms Burden saying she had a ‘heart of gold’.
