Three arrested after man, 42, is stabbed in the shoulder in North End attack

THREE people have been arrested after a fight at a house, in which a man was stabbed and seriously injured, spilled out onto a city centre street.

The 42-year-old victim was allegedly assaulted at a property in Kingston Crescent at 5.24pm, suffering a ‘puncture wound’ to his shoulder and injuries to his hand.

The injured male fled the terraced house and was found at a bus stop near by, in London Road, where he was treated by paramedics and later transported to Queen Alexandra Hospital, where he remains in a ‘serious condition’.

Two men have since been arrested for the attack, police confirmed this afternoon. A third was arrested on suspicion of drug offences.

A spokesman from Hampshire police said: ‘We were called at 5.24pm on Monday, September 7, to a report of an assault at an address in Kingston Crescent.

‘A 42 year-old man was located nearby and subsequently treated at QA hospital for a puncture wound to his shoulder and cuts. His injuries are described as serious, but not life-threatening. He remains in hospital in a stable condition at this time.

‘Two men, aged 44 and 46, were subsequently arrested in the area on suspicion of assault. They remain in custody at this time.’

South Central Ambulance Service (Scas) said it scrambled an ambulance and critical care car to the scene.

A spokesman added: ‘We received a 999 call at 5.31pm yesterday with the caller reporting a patient had been assaulted in Kingston Road, Portsmouth, and sustained a hand and shoulder injury.

‘We sent an ambulance and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance critical care car to the incident; the injuries were not as serious as initially thought and following treatment at the scene the male patient was then taken to the QA hospital.’

Police remained outside a property in Kingston Crescent for several hours last night.

Witnesses reported seeing officers removing brown paper bags from the property and a man being detained.

Police today confirmed a 42-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of drugs possession offences.

However, the male has been released from custody without charge but ‘remains under investigation’, a spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary added.

Officers have not appealed for any witnesses to yesterday’s assault.
