Power cut hits thousands of properties in rural Hampshire as engineers rush to scene - what caused it
Various neighbourhoods have been hit by the outage
Thousands of homes in rural Hampshire have been hit by a power cut.
Engineers have rushed to the scene following the major outage this afternoon (October 20). The unplanned power cut has hit parts of Wickham, Bishop’s Waltham, Swanmore, Soberton, Corhampton and some of the surrounding areas.

According to the Scottish and Southern Electricity Network (SSEN) power tracking website, the outage has hit to the S032 and PO17 areas. The company said: “We're sorry about the power cut in the area.
“The power cut is affecting 9719 properties in the area shown on the map. We are working with our engineers to fix the problem as quickly as possible, and will keep you updated. Engineers are on the way.
“When they get there, they'll work hard to fix the problem as quickly as possible. We'll keep you updated with any new information.”
SSEN said its aim is to get the power fully back online by 5pm. It added that the fault was caused by a problem on the overhead network. Issues like this do happen, and our engineers are very experienced at fixing them,” it added.
“Often, power can be restored quickly with a simple reset or by replacing a fuse at a nearby substation. If the problem is more complicated, repairs may take a little longer but our teams will keep working until everything is safely back up and running. We'll keep you updated along the way.”
