Emergency resurfacing works needed on A3 northbound after van bursts into flames near Horndean
Emergency service crews rushed to the scene in the early hours
A busy road in Hampshire will need resurfacing after a van caught fire.
Fire crews and other emergency personnel were scrambled to the A3 northbound in the early hours of today (September 3). A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said crews from Petersfield and Havant were deployed between Horndean and Petersfield at roughly 2.30am.
They added: “Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. The fire was out and crews returned to their stations at around 4am.”
Traffic officers from National Highways also attended the incident. The authority confirmed that work is needed to repair the route between junction 2 of the A3M and the A272 in Petersfield.
“Lane one of two remains closed following an earlier vehicle fire,” they added. “Emergency resurfacing works will be required and these will be taking place tonight. No residual delays on the approach.”
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: “We were called at 2.38am and attended to assist with closure of the road prior to us handing over to Highways.”
