An England fan who’s travelled to the World Cup from Portsmouth watched the game in the Azteca Stadium surrounded by Mexicans
An England fan from Portsmouth who has travelled to the World Cup had to pretend to be Mexican while watching this morning’s game.
Matt Simmons, 30, from Portsmouth, told the Press Association after the game, which England won 3-2: “I couldn’t get a ticket in the away end so I had to go incognito with the Mexican fans.

“We pulled a blinder, didn’t we? Absolutely smashed it tonight. Sensational. At the end there were beers flying everywhere – we were always going to win weren’t we? It’s light work. It’s coming home.”
Mr Simmons is confident about the rest of the tournament, speaking of already having plans for the Three Lions to win the World Cup and have Champagne on the flight home.
Asked how his nerves were during the game, Mr Simmons added: “They’re fine, they’re fine – onto Miami. Looking forward to playing Norway – let’s go. We’re going to bring it home – on the flight home, we’re going to get a nice couple of bottles of Champagne.”
